Submissions

When a publisher considers publishing a manuscript, a major factor is the fit between that book and the publishing house.

As a small press that prides itself on the quality and integrity of our work, we hope that your choosing to send us your manuscript is based on the books you’ve read from our catalogue, in the genre in which you yourself write—whether that be literary fiction or non-fiction, crime fiction, or books for young people.

Such familiarity with our books would help convince us that yours is a submission based on knowledge of our publishing program, and it would suggest the depth of your interest in being published by LLP.

In the hope that you are aware of the seriousness with which we consider additions to our catalogue, we can assure you that our editorial committee will read the work you submit to us with great care and respond within three months.

LLP welcomes submissions by new and established Canadian writers working in English in the following genres: fiction, literary non-fiction, including Singles essays, and books for young people.

The best way to judge if your work is likely to be a good fit for LLP is to check out our catalogue and read our books.

The best time to submit your manuscript is when it’s at its very best. We get many publishable submissions but can accept very few. Our submissions workload is such that we are not in a position to reconsider a manuscript we have declined.

We ourselves are all writers, and not a few of us are translators, too. We love books we wish we ourselves had written—and we especially love books none of us could ever have written.

We’re looking for quality, originality, wit, and audacity in your novel, authenticity and a compelling story in your non-fiction, and a strong argument in your Singles essay.

We’ll be considering the market for your work, too. Please let us know who your readers will be—and how you and LLP might work together to reach them.

We do not publish books that use generative AI for writing or revisions: everything we publish must be 100% human-authored, and you’ll find that right in our contracts.
